One other idea to add to Mary's:
I bought for about $20 a plastic mat, the type that goes under office chairs, and put it under the cage. It's clear and hardly noticeable, but everything from food to poop (pardon the expression) comes off with one wipe! It also provides a sturdy surface for the cage. I highly recommend it!
