Hi Maryjane. If your baby was well socialized, he should go right to you from the beginning. There is no "window", but there are degrees of socialization. This situation sounds VERY similar to Annette's situation (scroll down the msg board to read prior conversation)...in that the baby wasn't FULLY weaned. Twelve weeks is awfully young to be completely weaned.

In Annette's case, the baby thought Annette should be reaching her hand out to feed her...not hold her. Your case may be similar. Try feeding him oatmeal or any soft mushy foods from a spoon, then later from your hands if possible. Look at the area below his neck. If it is sunken in, then he is very hungry and confused as to why you aren't feeding him and reacting in the only way he knows how.

Even a "well-socialized" baby can act in what we perceive to be an aggressive manner when hungry and faced with a new environment.

My advice would be to try the feedings and keep in constant touch with the breeder to get play-by-play instructions on this problem.

A well adjusted, well socialized, fully weaned baby should want to be with you immediately..so there is a problem and when you solve it, you and your baby will have a wonderful relationship.

Best wishes,
