Hi Tania!

I personally would not recommend taking your bird outside without some kind of restraint or "leash" even if the wings are clipped. Birds with clipped wings CAN FLY - just not well compared to full-flighted birds.

There are people who do take their birds outside without restraints, but they are taking a terrible chance of losing the bird - no matter how well trained a bird may be, if it becomes frightened or startled - or for any reason - it could easily just "poof" be gone! If a clipped bird is frightened by, say an overly friendly dog running up to you on the sidewalk, it could try to get away and fly into an oncoming car.

I just don't think it's worth the risk.

There are some people who use a harness and leash. I do not use them, but only because I don't think my birds would tolerate it. Other people use theirs with success. Do you get Bird Talk magazine in Australia? There is such a harness and leash advertised there. If you can't find Bird Talk in Australia, let me know and I will look it up for you.

There are other people who like a "backpack" type soft sided carry tote for taking the bird out with them for walks, etc. There is one made by Hobo - also advertised in Bird Talk. I have not personally seen one, so cannot make a recommendation, but people I have chatted with on the Internet who have them like them. You would want to research that carefully to be sure it is right for you.

As I am located in Washington, USA, I can only recommend the Parrot Society of Australia as a resource for you to get started with. They may know of good sources of information, clubs or stores for parrot products. I have included a link to one of their articles about eclectus. The author of the article is also from Vic. and may be a further resource for you.

Hope this information is of help to you!
