Absolutely head over heels

Postby sarahm » Sun Aug 16, 2009 6:15 am

Hi everyone,

I've had my female grand eckie called Grover (like out of Sesame Street - long story!) for about a month now and I'm completely in love with her. She's still settling in but has made amazing progress in the time we've had her and I'm really impressed. She loves nothing better than having music play and me sing along to it - I think if she knew the words, she'd sing too but since she doesn't, she makes up her own tune! She's starting to talk and makes the right sound but isn't pronouncing things just yet (although I've heard her say "hello" very clearly when I've been in another room!).

Since its Sunday today I was having a bit of a sleep in after a late night last night. At 7:30, she calls out "hello!" to me (in her mumbled way). Didn't get a response. So she climbed up to her bell, rang that a few times, then called out again until I responded. Best way I've ever woken up :D

That is sure a nice way to wake up, with your ekkie making nice noises and even talking. :D :D
It's not just the feathers that make beautiful birds.

Very sweet. I can never pick my favorite thing Simon says but my favorite thing Gersh says has to be "I love" (he drops the you) with a 2nd close being when he goes into what I call his "Who's on first monologue"... "Are you a chicken?" "Are you a bird?", "Are you a parrot?", "Are you a Gersh?"

They are just too cute! Congrats and Welcome to LOV! You won't find a better Eclectus site on the web! LOV'ers are a family!

That is so nice. I know what you mean. Peter my Eckie is now 8 and i love him more each day. He loves me singing to him and when he dosn't like a song he nibbles at my face but when he does he puts his ear right on my mouth. Then later when i doing some chores i here him saying a few sentences. He picks up very quickly. Love it when he yells out "mummy i love you, with the Mmmmm noise like a kissing noise:" just want to hug him to death. We recently got a female rescue Eckie who is only 4mths old. My husband is raising her as Peter is his mummys boy. Had slight problem with him feather plucking but since we got her he seems to groom himself nicely now. Still pulls at his feathers we think that may be more in his mind specailly when he sees a bug flying around.

My Scarlett is 15, she says one and only one word... HELLO, like that, LOUD.
Zak is 8 says three - cracker, ma & step up. ( I heard other words, though they have never been repeated, so I might have been dreaming!)
Indigo, age unknown, says gently indigo & hello. She also whistles many tunes and likes to go ad lib.
They can all scream. I'm jealous of you folks who have talkers!
Right now Zak is SCREAMING, bless his little heart. :)

aww,
Im so jealous. Rico has said Hi once. I walked in with take out before corey had to go into work on midnights and said Hi Rico. Just as i stepped into the bedroom from the living room (where his "bedroom" is) i heard a perfect little HI he repeated it once right after it but then clammed up. He just cooes and clicks a lot. He LOVES youtube. Simon's mom is one of his favorites. so are stewie and harley, i wonder if their parents are on here...
I cant wait till his little mutters turn into words :)

Right now he seems to think the best trick is to "preen" ears

Yeah I got a kick out of it once I realized that was you, which one of your boys plucks again? I would never have known from the videos, Rico ducks his head up and down with your guy when he plays peekaboo with your husband lol it cracks us up.

Do you have any videos of layla? I dont think I have ever seen her.

That's Gershwin playing peek-a-boo. Gersh is plucked. He has a sad story. His former mom has/had lykemia and did several trial studies that took her out of the state for months. ( I mention the possible 'had' because I haven't heard from her in over a year so I fear she lost her battle.) Hence the plucking began. He is completely bald under his wings and down his back but unless he lifts his wings you can't see it. His yellow feathers on his chest are from follicle damage from plucking. He hasn't plucked since I've had him which is 2 years now...or isit 3...I'll have to go check dates.

Not much on Layla because she attacks me. Her story is SO bad. She was physically and emotionally abused from her former owner's ex-wife. She is so afraid of women. It's really sad. I can't even sit next to her cage and talk to her. She shivers and shakes so bad and then start plucking due to the stress. I can't handle her but at least I know she'll never be hurt again! I've had her 2 years this past July...or maybe it was 3... gotta check those dates.

Gershwin is VOS and 15 years old this past March. Layla is VOS and will be 15 in Oct. Simon is SI is will be 5 in Oct. I'm glad they give others joy because they all give me joy in their own special ways. Like my hubby and sons... my life is so blessed with them sharing it with me.
