Spike is home!

Postby cmcentyre » Sun Feb 07, 2010 1:06 am

We got back a bit ago from picking up Spike, poor guy is scared and doesn't want to come out of his crate. I tried to get him out with a perch but he attacked it, so I am sitting up with him waiting for him to come out lol. I hope I can get him into his new cage tonight. He's had a big day! He sure is a cutie :)

Well I took the top off the crate and put some fresh food and water in there next to him, he stopped lunging after the top was removed I think he could not see that well until then. He was really really interested in the treats I put in his bowl but decided to climb on me instead and cuddle! He is the sweetest little guy, and sooo cuddly. he was grumpy when I put him in his cage though. Spike is checking out what is in the food bowl now but I feel pretty good that he wanted to be on me first instead of food first! I am so excited to have him home, I'll post some pictures later (he hates the camera LOL so only a couple, he already screamed at it so I dont want to take more tonight)!
I didn't expect him to want to be on me so quick but I am VERY happy he likes me, I was worried!

Here are some photos of him :

Welcome home Spike!

Now remember, as he gets comfortable he may 'digress' and not want you as much again. It's all natural. Time and patience.

Congrats. I know you're so excited. He looks so good.

Thanks, I will keep that in mind. I am really looking forward to him getting comfortable. He is having a nervous morning, but he eventually flew over and sat on me (after about an hour and a half) and made cute noises LOL. I am trying to let him come to me when he is ready.

Thanks all, he is doing really well though I am a little worried about his weight. His first vet visit was yesterday and everything looks good so far except his weight is down a little bit.
I love him so much already, he is getting better with everything everyday. (especially mess making LOL)

First of all congratulations with your Spike.
Looking at the other pictures you also posted he is doing well and you can enjoy his presence. That his weight is a little down is normal. That has to do with the changes he has been going through, like traveling and his new home. But you will see that his weight (usually) will stabilize very soon and he will remain the same or even gain some weight again.
It's not just the feathers that make beautiful birds.

He looks beautiful and he looks very spoiled :D (which is awesome) Some birds take awhile to warm up my Lucy did but when I adopted my Desi he just jumped on me and was fine. Every bird is different patience is the key and lots of love! Congrats he is a GGG
