Agreed, mine must NOT be affected by spirulina, if in fact that is the reason some Eclectus toe tap when they eat Harrisons. But, it could also be corn that bothers other birds, since that is the first ingredient listed. I remember reading about Milo who it turned out was very allergic to corn. He toe-tapped when given corn. I never knew there was such a thing as dehydrated corn until I read his story (still not sure what it is, unless it just means dried corn kernels).
Truthfully, I was against feeding pellets for years, but now see they have their place.
I'm grateful to have a quality dry food on hand that my birds will eat, especially in an emergency as MaryNat said.
Also, in my case, because I have a pet pair that feeds babies, I like knowing there is a dry food that can be kept in their cage overnight so that they can always have full crops when it comes to feeding chicks. Fresh/cooked foods can spoil so easily so I make an effort to remove fresh/cooked foods before bacteria sets in. I often hear the crunching of pellets early in the morning and have felt the tiny hard chunks in the babies' crops. With my pair's first clutch I worried about them needing softer foods when feeding chicks, but I've since learned that all parent-raised chicks have chunkier crops than hand-fed babies.
