As I have posted a couple of week ago, Ruby has definutly showed me her side of puberty. I read last week that she is going through puberty and I cannot discipline her because it is just her nature. She is a female SI ekkie and is 2 years 2 months old. She bit me last January in my hand and this January, 2010, she bit my lip and the inside of my mouth.
With much intervention, as I like to call it, she is 90% back to my baby girl. My husband has been a big factor. She listens to him and he started by telling her to step up on my hand. I was sooo scared that a couple of times I ran out of the room. I kept on invisioning her bitting me again and blood being everywhere, like it was when she bit my lip. But finally I bit the bullet and she stepped up on my hand last week. I was so scared and so happy at the same time. But she started looking at my thumb like it was dinner. So my husband had me start snapping my fingers towards the ceiling to alter her attention. I also gave her treats (like long prezel sticks) for each intervention.
Yesturday, I was doing my homework on my laptop (I had my back to her cage) and I heard her say, "step up." I looked at her and then turned my head. Then she said it again! So I ran to her cage and took her out.I still have to get a stick to get her our of her cage, but I can do everything without my husband even home. She even sits on my finger for a long time, gets comfortable and gets warm feet. She even fluffs out like she goes for ryan.
So we are all game for our 17 hours trip to Nebraska in three weeks! I told my husband she could not come until she was 100% ruby. But I feel that she will be herself by next weekend atleast. We bought the avian hotel ($130) today. She seems okay with it. We are starting short sessions with it so by the time we go on our trip, she will be use to it.
Thank you all for your support!!
