MY LIFE AND TIMES WITH THE ECLECTUS PARROT
Introduction
This article will be a series of articles on my life experiences with the Eclectus Parrot. To explain my interest in this parrots species, I have reproduced the Eclectus parrot since 1971 and have raised several hundred over the years. This is not a display of ego but rather an explanation of my absolute fascination with this parrot species. I have made trips to New Guinea and Australia to observe the Eclectus in the wild and I shall relay both in this series. I will describe my field experiences and my experiences with Eclectus parrots in captivity, along with many stories and anecdotes. The first will be an early history of the Eclectus parrot coming from books, personal communication with ornithologists, and some from the natives of New Guinea. Please be bemused, educated and above all, be entertained by one of the most interesting and beautiful creatures that God has created.
