Kayleigh (E-Mail) from Nebraska shared this information about her multi-colored female Eclectus baby.
"This is our baby Vosmaeri Ekkie named Éire (pronounced Erin). We brought her home while she was still being handfed and I finished weaning her on May 2, 2004. She was a bit of an impulse buy at a bird fair in Omaha, NE. My mom (who Éire actually belongs to) went there knowing that she wanted to finally buy her first bird. There, she saw Éire and fell in love. We'd done research on Ekkies for a long time and I had actually convinced my mom to read my book about them. When she held Éire, it was love at first sight.
As for her coloring, we have not been able to find any real reason as to why she looks like that. Both her parents and her siblings looked normal and they were all fed the same thing. The breeder later told us that he'd had another female a few years back that had coloring like this but she molted into a beautiful normal looking Ekkie, which is what Éire has started to do now (a premature molt). I expect in a few months we'll have a completely normal looking beautiful girl on our hands!"
