Blondie was hatched at Eclectusville, owned by Susie Christian, in 1997 from a clutch of eggs laid by "Grandma", a Vosmaeri Eclectus hen in the thirty to forty year age range. Blondie had a female clutchmate. When Blondie's pinfeathers emerged, she was a yellowish-orange color with a mottled and striped effect, but her sister's coloration was normal. Says Christian, "I kept Blondie back because of her odd feather coloring. When she moulted, she turned a normal color and lost all her yellow feathers. However Blondie is very susceptible to getting yellow bars on her feathers if she has any pellets in her diet. I fed pellets for several months when Blondie was about three years old, and she developed yellow bands randomly on her feathers once again. After the next moult she again turned her correct color. She has no pellets in her diet anymore. Her mother had no pellets in her diet either, previous to laying the eggs that produced one normal colored baby and one Blondie."
